A New Year, A New Chapter in Art
As the world turns the page into 2025, the promise of new beginnings resonates across cultures and communities. For art enthusiasts and lovers of natural beauty, this year marks a particularly exciting chapter. In April, the vibrant Portuguese art scene will gain a new venue showcasing the work of carefully selected, talented, contemporary artists. The grand opening of Xochi Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden on Saturday April 19, 2025, will be an event to remember, ushering in a fresh wave of cultural vibrancy in central Portugal.
Location, Location, Location
The backdrop for Xochi Art Gallery is the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, home to Portugal’s highest peak - Star Mountain. It is also in the Estrela UNESCO Global Geopark. The nature park is a protected area that boasts an array of diverse flora and fauna and breathtaking scenery characterised by rock formations, glacial valleys and mountain waterfalls. It also famously has a waterfall in the middle of a lake.
The gallery and sculpture park are nestled in the picturesque Vale de Amoreira, next to its stunning natural river beach, which is a refreshing place to cool down in the long hot summers. This small peaceful village is the starting point for many trekking routes along mountain trails with panoramic mountain views..
Xochi art gallery features 100 m2 of indoor space, divided into two distinct areas complemented by 9.2 hectares of diverse landscapes. Vineyards, meadows, forests, river frontage, and a pretty flower garden surrounded by majestic mountains provide breathtaking views from every angle, creating an idyllic setting. Visitors are invited to explore the grounds, which start at the Zezere River, taking in the sights, sounds, and scents of the surrounding landscape filled with wildflowers, fruit trees, holm oaks, and majestic pines. Those with plenty of stamina can hike to the top of the mountain and enjoy the panoramic views from the love swing. Afterwards, they can relax in the gallery’s flower garden with a cool drink.

The Vision Behind Xochi Art Gallery
The founders of Xochi Art Gallery are mother and son team Belinda and Luc Levez. Belinda, author of many books, has 30 years of experience in the art world, and Luc, a software engineer, has grown up in an artistic environment. Both have a passion for art and are avid collectors.
The gallery aims to build a stable of both established artists and up-and-coming talent that can be mentored. They have already attracted prize-winning international artists whose works are in museums and government collections. The work of Belgian abstract artist, Roger Remaut, American/British sculptor and abstract painter, Sandra Jane Heard, and French conceptual artist, Frédéric Develay will be featured in solo exhibitions.
The vision for the gallery is to provide a space to show a curated selection of thought-provoking pieces that challenge conventional boundaries and celebrate innovation. Artists will be given a platform to show their work and share their voices while inviting visitors to explore the stories and inspirations behind each piece.
The venue will also be a cultural hub for artists, writers, and musicians. The gallery is committed to fostering dialogue and community through art. Events including book readings, workshops, talks, performances, and gastronomic dining will be organised.
Xochi Art Gallery also plans to extend its reach beyond its picturesque home. Pop-up exhibitions in dynamic locations like Lisbon, Porto, Madrid, Seville, and the Algarve will allow the featured artists to gain greater visibility while bringing their creativity to a wider audience.
The gallery’s website features highlights of our artists' works and a blog that gives insights into the thought processes of their creative endeavours. Works can be purchased directly from the site.
