Artist Statement

Bel Mur is a multidisciplinary visual artist from Barcelona whose work explores identity, gender, and collective emancipation through deeply personal, socially engaged, and materially conscious practices. Rooted in her own lived experience, Bel Mur’s art confronts the oppressive structures of a corporatocratic and heteropatriarchal society—one that classifies, isolates, and silences. Her practice emerges from a place of rupture and reconnection: a return to the self through creation, after years of fulfilling imposed roles of servitude, obedience, and self-erasure.

Drawing from sculpture, installation, painting, and mixed media, Bel Mur constructs powerful visual narratives centered on the female experience. She repeatedly depicts herself and other women—not as subjects of the gaze, but as agents of transformation. Her work channels empathy, resistance, and love as creative forces, portraying women who transcend labels, beauty standards, and societal constraints. Through symbolic gestures and recurring motifs—threads, cubes, walls, shadows—her pieces evoke themes of captivity and liberation, individual struggle and collective awakening.

Sustainability is not only an ethical commitment in Bel Mur’s practice but a conceptual one. She works with sustainable and, where possible, reusable materials, ensuring that the physical footprint of her art aligns with her vision of a more harmonious, interconnected world.

With installations that immerse viewers in physical and emotional tension, and sculptures that celebrate difference and empowerment, Bel Mur's work aims to provoke thought and inspire change. Her collaborative projects—like the Antiejército de mujeres, an open, global initiative of sculptural resistance—invite public participation and foster communal storytelling.

At once poetic and political, Bel Mur’s body of work functions as both personal catharsis and public call to consciousness. Through her art, she not only reclaims her voice but opens space for others to do the same.
