Xochi Art Gallery continues its bold programming with Sculpted Visions, a dual exhibition featuring the work of Swiss photographer Julien Dumont and Canadian sculptor Matti Dubee. Running from May 17 through June 12, the show invites viewers into a contemplative dialogue between image and object, perception and transformation.

This powerful pairing showcases two artists who are deeply invested in process—whether it’s the fleeting play of light across a surface or the labor-intensive transmutation of paper into sculptural mass. At the heart of the exhibition is a shared inquiry into how ordinary materials and moments can be elevated into profound artistic expressions.

Introducing the Artists of Sculpted Visions
Julien Dumont is a Swiss photographer whose work captures the emotional resonance of light. His photographs—ranging from intimate portraits to architectural abstractions—explore the tension between visibility and obscurity. With an eye for geometry and shadow, Dumont’s images reveal unexpected beauty in everyday settings. His compositions slow time, inviting viewers to see not just what’s in front of them, but how light reshapes meaning.

Matti Dubee, a Canadian sculptor, redefines the medium through his innovative use of newspaper. Using his self-developed “Dali Paper” technique, he transforms this ephemeral material into elegant, marble-like forms. Layer by layer, Dubee builds, sands, and polishes each piece into a sculpture that feels both ancient and futuristic. His work plays with contradiction—weight and lightness, strength and fragility—often through the curves of the human figure.

A Dialogue Between Artists and Elements
In Sculpted Visions, Dumont and Dubee engage in a poetic conversation across mediums. One works with light; the other with weight. One captures moments; the other freezes time in layered matter. Together, they reflect on how perception can be shaped not just by what we see, but by how deeply we choose to look.
