This work was born out of the artist’s need to convey the isolation that exists among people today. Subdued by social norms, individuals impose loneliness on themselves as a way to shield against an urban, dehumanized, consumerist, and depressive society. Within the maelstrom of concrete, we hide behind walls.
As fear grows, people build thicker layers of protection against everything perceived as foreign, without realizing that they are in fact imprisoning themselves. These layers become deeper and deeper, eventually leading to complete immobilization.
The artist reflects on a corporatocratic and heteropatriarchal system that classifies, limits, divides, and disconnects. It portrays a sleeping society — one devoid of critical thinking — driven by fear and immersed in solitude.
Behind the Canvas
Bel Mur é uma artista visual multidisciplinar de Barcelona cujo trabalho explora identidade, género e emancipação coletiva através de práticas profundamente pessoais, socialmente práticas empenhadas e materialmente conscientes. Enraizada na sua própria experiência vivida, a arte de Bel Mur confronta as estruturas opressivas de uma sociedade corporatocrática e heteropatriarcal — uma que classifica, isola e silencia. A sua prática emerge de um lugar de rutura e reconexão: um regresso ao eu através da criação, após anos a cumprir papéis impostos de servidão, obediência e autoanulação.
