Devour 2: The Fall — James Peter Henry
Wild, vibrant, and layered with meaning, Devour 2: The Fall is a complex meditation on desire, corruption, and spiritual collapse. Henry approaches the canvas much like a writer—employing an interlinear technique to tell multiple narratives simultaneously.
Two women form the central tension. One, kneeling, holds a golden apple—echoing Eve’s temptation and the ancient promise of divinity. The other, increasingly consumed by wealth and power, is drawn into a gilded cage of her own making. These dual narratives unfold in parallel, reflecting both personal and societal descent.
The saturated reds, fractured geometry, and symbolic density suggest a world enthralled by excess. Yet within the chaos, Henry points toward choice: between two trees, between consumption and redemption.
Devour stands as a meditation on longing, a mirror to the peril that comes with wanting too much.
