In 2026, Xochi Art Gallery proudly presents The Remaut Collection, a
comprehensive, year-long program of rotating exhibitions dedicated to
one of Belgium’s most distinctive and enduring contemporary artists.
The first exhibition, Into Abstraction, shows Remaut’s early abstract
works and his departure from figuration
At 83 years old, Roger Remaut continues to create powerful, textured
works that explore the poetry of material surfaces, the passage of
time, and the transformation of memory into matter. Across five
decades of artistic exploration, his practice has evolved into a
deeply personal visual language built from paint, pigment, and found
materials.
Throughout the year, Xochi Art Gallery will present four themed
exhibitions, each focusing on a distinct period and concept in
Remaut’s work — from his early abstract beginnings to his mature,
mixed-media compositions that fuse emotion, history, and texture.
Born in Ostend, Belgium, in 1942, Remaut studied at the Ostend and
Westhoek Academies. His work has been exhibited throughout Europe and
is represented in major public collections, including the Museum of
Fine Arts in Ostend and the Belgian and Flemish Government art
collections.
The Remaut Collection reaffirms Xochi Art Gallery’s commitment to
showcasing artists of lasting vision — those whose work continues to
resonate across generations and borders.
"Roger Remaut’s art reminds us that creation is a form of resilience,”
says Belinda Levez, Co-founder of Xochi Art Gallery. “His work speaks
to the enduring power of transformation — both in art and in life."
