Photography by Julien Dumont | Sculptures by Matti Dubee
May 17 – June 12 | Xochi Art Gallery
Sculpted Visions unites two artists whose practices center around transformation—of material, of light, and of perception. Photographer Julien Dumont and sculptor Matti Dubee share a commitment to form, structure, and the elevation of everyday elements into compelling works of contemporary art.
Julien Dumont’s photography is driven by a fascination with the interplay of light and shadow. Whether capturing people, objects, or spaces, he isolates moments where illumination reveals new geometries and where contrast becomes a language of its own. His compositions embrace the raw and imperfect, often uncovering unexpected beauty in the mundane. With a strong sense of framing and a refined visual rhythm, his images challenge viewers to slow down and consider how light defines both emotion and form.
Matti Dubee’s sculptural works reimagine newspaper—a fleeting, disposable material—as monumental forms. Using his pioneering “Dali Paper” technique, he sculpts with meticulous precision, layering and sanding paper until it resembles polished stone. The resulting figures carry both grace and structural sophistication, bridging classical reference with material innovation. His work explores the duality of weight and lightness, permanence and fragility, often through the contours of the human form.
Together, Dumont and Dubee offer a striking dialogue between image and object, shadow and surface. Sculpted Visions invites viewers into a space where refined technique meets conceptual clarity—where form is not just seen, but deeply felt.

Julien Dumont is a Swiss-French photographer who finds poetry in the everyday, capturing the quiet beauty hidden in mundane moments. Through a careful interplay of light and shadow, his images reveal emotional depth in fleeting textures, silhouettes, and subtle contrasts—inviting viewers to see the extraordinary woven into the fabric of the ordinary.
View ProfileMatti Dubee is a Canadian sculptor who transforms discarded newspapers into elegant, marble-like forms. Blending sustainability with innovation, his “Dali Paper” technique reimagines paper-mâché as fine art—capturing fluid movement, delicate textures, and the illusion of weight in materials often deemed worthless. His work explores dualities—fragility and strength, impermanence and permanence—inviting viewers to reconsider value, beauty, and the art of transformation.
