A commanding grey surface, subtly animated by purple highlights, incorporates an iron bar and a rope that extends beyond the canvas, asserting the work’s physical presence. Protruding materials emphasize depth and objecthood, blurring the boundary between painting and sculpture. The materials—rope and rebar sourced from the Visserskaai and sand gathered from Ostend’s Grote Strand—anchor the work in the artist’s hometown of Ostend, embedding the city’s maritime soul and character into the composition.
Exhibited at a solo exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Ostend.
